Roof Panel - Oilcanning Noise

LIGHT TRUCK 1985-86 F SERIES SUPERCAB
Roof "Oilcanning" or flexing may occur on 1985-86 F Series Supercab vehicles when operated with a window down. This condition is caused by inadequate roof support. Trucks that exhibit this condition may be serviced by adding an additional roof support per the following procedure.
1. Remove the roof trim panel from the vehicle (Shop Manual, Section 45-41-10, Figure 13).

2. Locate E0TZ-1350244-A roof panel reinforcement 5" rearward of existing reinforcement (Figure 19) and brace tightly against roof panel.
3. Drill (2) 3/16" diameter holes in reinforcement and roof rail as shown in Figure 19, View A on each side of vehicle.
4. Install (2) 382602-S100 pop rivets, using Rotunda Blind Fastener Installation Tool 107-00600, as shown on each side of vehicle.
5. Replace roof trim panel.
