Radio - Ignition Noise/Alternator Whine On AM Band
Article No. 86-13-25RADIO - AM NOISE FROM
ALTERNATOR
LIGHT TRUCK 1986 F SERIES, BRONCO
The subject vehicles may experience ignition noise and/or alternator whine on weak-to-moderate strength AM stations, RFI suppression ground straps are needed.
This condition can be corrected, on a customer complaint basis, by installing three clip-on ground straps (part number D5FZ-19A095-A), one in each of the following locations:
Figure 15:

1. Between the frame and body, across the body mount located behind the RF wheel well. (Refer to Figure 15)
Figure 16:

2. Between the frame and transmission/transfer case. (Refer to Figure 16)
Figure 17:

3. Between the frame and exhaust system, near the muffler. (Refer to Figure 17)
Prior to attaching the ground straps, scrape and clean the attaching areas to ensure good contact between the clips and bare metal. Make sure the clips on the straps are securely attached to the vehicle. In order to assure a tight fit, it may be necessary to compress the clips in a bench vise, prior to installation, to reduce the opening in the clip.
